There are many ways to get THC into our system, but many of us gravitate towards a certain method that fits our lifestyle. Depending on how much time we have, how much grass we have in our stash, and our budget for recreation, will determine what method is best for you.
We strongly encourage you to go out and try each method for yourself, but if you want something to point you in the right direction, you’re in the right place.
As much as we’d love to give you the ultimate method to get your THC fix, the versatility of cannabis gives the user an abundance of choices that ultimately boils down to user preference.
With so many options, we’ve boiled it down to the top 10 methods of ingesting cannabis. Each method has its pros and cons, and testing out different methods of getting high is part of the fun of being a stoner, but here at Stoned Philosophy, we have placed our top 10 methods to get high in the following order:
10. Gravity Bongs
A gravity bong, more commonly known as a "geeb" or "GB", is a water pipe contraption, usually hand made, that uses gravity to pull the smoke into the empty chamber, then fires it directly back into your lungs. Despite the small socket (from a wrench set) that is typically used as the bowl, one big pull from one of these can knock you straight on your ass. This is an extremely cheap and efficient way to get high, with two water bottles, a makeshift bowl, and a little engineering, you could be thinking about how your skin feels funky in 30 seconds or less. Although this method might sound like a good time, if you're using plastic water bottles to build your GB, you are risking breathing plastic chemicals into your lungs, and avoiding those might be a smarter option. If you want to try building a GB set, it might be worth avoiding plastic products.
9. Spliffs
Spliffs are exactly the same thing as a joint, but as soon as you put tobacco into your roll, it becomes a spliff. Make sure not to reference any of the rolling methods incorrectly, even though stoners are typically super chill, misnaming the roll could be a massive trigger.
8. Blunts
Very similar to joints and spliffs, blunts are broken down weed rolled up into a paper. The only difference is that the paper is made out of tobacco. Of course, we all know the dangers of tobacco, so incorporate it at your own risk. Many times, people pull up to their local gas station and buy some cigars, then empty out all the tobacco and replace it with the green stuff. Blunts are popular, not only for the addictive nature of the nicotine in the wrap, but because they are available in a wide variety of flavors, they burn slowly, and you can pack a ton of grass into them. The combination of weed rolled into a tobacco wrap will get you buzzed and high at the same time, resulting in a calm, melo, more controllable high. Just like a joint, however, blunts can be difficult to roll. The wraps are notoriously brittle, so keeping it moist is extremely helpful. With practice you can roll blunts the size of King Kongs fingers.
7. Pipes
Pipes come in a wide array of shapes and sizes but they all have four main parts: the bowl, the mouthpiece, the chamber, and the carburetor. Pack your weed into the bowl, light it up and take a rip through the mouthpiece while controlling the airflow with the carburetor. A thick cloud of harsh smoke will pound into your lungs, surely causing at least a few coughs. Pipes can be made of glass, wood, or metal and many have beautiful designs, so finding a pocket puncher that you like won't be a problem. You can find them at any smoke shop for a fair price. The convenience and portability of this piece makes it a popular choice among many smokers, but don't take this simple apparatus lightly, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.
6. Dab Rigs
Just like bongs, dab rigs are water pipes that filter the smoke through multiple chambers. Contrary to bongs, rigs don't have a bowl to pack flower into, they instead come with an attachment called a nail. The nail it heated up to extremely high temperatures with a torch, then a small metal stick called a dabber is used to scoop a small amount of concentrate onto the nail. Many people use another accessory called a carb cap to trap the heat within the nail, causing a more efficient vaporization of the concentrate. If you can get over the expensive entry fee and your an experienced smoker who wants to get super high, a dab might be your best bet. However to a beginner, dab rigs are an intimidating piece of equipment; if the red glow of the nail as the torch scorches the glass doesn't scare you away, then maybe the constant crying cough coming from your buddy will make you question your decisions.
5. Edibles
The cannabis plant can't get you high until you get rid of this pesky carboxyl molecule that essentially renders weed psychoactively inert. The only way to do that is to heat your weed to a certain temperature. Taking a flame directly to the flower works wonders, but along the way some people found out how to activate weed without completely burning it through a process called decarboxylation. Once its activated, cannabis is typically infused with a fat soluble substance such as cooking oil or butter, then cooked into any meal or snack you can think of. Even your favorite drinks can become a tool to get zooted. In the hands of a talented chef, these dishes could be a great centerpiece for date between two cannabis connoisseurs. Edibles can be infused with any amount of weed and get you as high as you please. At extremely high doses, edibles are even known to induce psychedelic trips and can last hours on end. Take caution when ingesting an edible, especially if it is from an unknown source, it could take up to an hour and a half for it to kick in. Don't take more unless you are positive your last treat has finished taking effect. At normal doses though, edibles are enjoyed by many people who prefer to stay away from smoke inhalation.
4. Dry Vapes
Dry vapes, similar to oil vapes, use a device that heats up your weed into a vapor that you can smoke. However, instead of oil, dry vapes use broken down flower. All you have to do is grind up some of your stash, put it in a small bowl, set your temperature, and smoke away. After you've cashed your bowl, DON'T THROW AWAY the brown weed left behind by your vaporizer, all of this can be collected and reused in a bong, joint, or anything else that directly combusts the flower.
3. Oil Vapes
Oil vapes, or dab pens consist of two parts: the oil cartridge and the battery. The cartridge is filled with various combinations of cannabinoids and terpenes that are carefully extracted from any of your favorite cannabis strains. These cartridges come in any ratio of THC to CBD that you desire and are offered in half gram and full gram varieties for a surprisingly fair price. The battery is the section that heats the oil enough to vaporize it. Many batteries have settings to change the power level, giving you full control over your high. And to top it all off, this powerful device can fit right in your pocket and doesn't have an overwhelming weed scent when you hit it. The convenience, ease of use, and bang for your buck of dab pens make them an amazing option, but remember, with great power comes great responsibility; carrying around such a device can easily make you pass out in your car on a lunch break.
2. Bongs
A bong is a pipe that uses water to cool down the smoke resulting in a smooth, cool hit. Basic bongs consist of a base that holds the water and the down-stem for the bowl, and a tube shooting out from the base. If you are willing to spend the money, bongs can come equipped with additional smoke filtering components like ice chambers and percolators. Not only do bongs supply a clean and powerful high, these elegant works of art can make for an excellent addition to you living room. Of course, like with anything you use multiple times and display on your coffee table, bongs need to cleaned. Smoke residue can quickly accumulate on the walls of your bong, decreasing its efficiency and its feng shui.
1. Joints
Joints, also known as reefers, are a very well respected method of smoking weed, and for good reason. If you want to taste your weed and achieve a pure cannabis high, joints are the way to go. Break down your favorite strains and roll it up in a variety of paper options, including hemp and bamboo. Depending on the size of your paper, you can roll up to an 8th of weed into a single joint, which is perfect for sharing with friends; or by yourself, whatever you’re into. With the right preparation, joints offer a smooth and effective hit every time, with or without a filter. However, perfecting the art of rolling a joint takes practice, and you will need to spend some time and effort trying different techniques to find your technique.
